BDRRM KWENTUHAN

Barangay 471 Zone 46 District 

I picked this barangay because we used to live in this area and my grandma was a former kagawad for this barangay. I lived there for 15 years and I can definitely see the improvement of this place. Back then, the area is used to always be flooded and there was no proper waste management. We used to just dump the trash wherever and the drainage system wasn't always clean. That's why whenever there was a short heavy rain, the area gets flooded easily. Because of this, the drainage system will be blocked and bacteria may spread leading to various sicknesses especially dengue and leptospirosis. Usually, everyone gets updated with the news through radios and television news. Aside from this, we have a tight knit community and everyone knows each other and when disasters start, we tell our neighbours. This problems doesn’t happen very often but whenever there’s a rainfall, light flood occurs after it. 

The most affected area of the floods and the blocked drainage system would be those who are in the lower part or those who have one-storey houses. They would be in the line of danger of getting diseases and be infected greatly by being part of the flooded areas. People of all ages most especially the children and the elderly would be at great risk of these disasters because they have weak immune system and is vulnerable to it. This will then be hard for those people who are making a living and those who have a hard time to because of these situations. It would also be hard to those who are trying to survive and are living in the streets. These would all be a difficult situation for everyone whenever a calamity would strike. The local government should strictly implement the solutions for these problems so that the residents of the community will be disciplined in following the rules. We should teach them that what we are doing is not really for the barangay but for us. Having a clean and sustainable place would help our living condition better and will makes us more prepared for the disasters that will come. 

The barangay has long developed and made programs which is focused on helping the community rise and be prepared to disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes and floods. They have made seminars regarding this topic and trainings about BDRRM and the like. They have started clean up drives for proper waste management and declogging canals and waterways. They make it accessible to everyone in the community and to promote unity and support with one another. All of this is lead by the MDRRMO with the help of the barangay captain and their fellow kagawads in spreading the message and awareness to the community. 

I have seen the development of the barangay and I’m proud to say that it has now changed for the better. They really strongly advise and require the residents to participate in the trainings and seminars. They make sure that problems are dealt with and that it would make a better and stronger community. I can see the effort they put in for everyone to feel safe and secure and i think that is what is needed in order to make our country better. Our country needs to work together in making everyone an environment where it is clean, safe, and sustainable. We need to help each other rise up and not bring each other down. We need to stand up and make a change for the future of our country and let us be an example to other countries that the Philippines can not only have individual role models but our whole country is a model country of success and unity.
